1. Clambering- To climb quickly and awkwardly by using the hands feet.

2. Muzzle- The open and end of a gun barrel.

3- Skirmish- a brief fight between two people or two small groups.

4. Dismount- To get off

5. Deserter- someone who abandons the army.

6. Surveyor- A person whose job is to take a comprehensive view or land or buildings.

7. Shilling- A coin that was used in Great Britain until 1971.

8. Apprentice- Someone who learns a trade or craft by working with a skilled person.

9. Disarm- To deprive of the means to attack or defend.

10. Cipher- Write in a code.
4 Important Characters
1. Tim- Tim is a really important character because he is the person that the book talks about the most about.

2. Sam- Sam is another important character of the book because he is Tim's brother and he goes to war to get his freedom.

3. Life- Life is very important in the book because he is Tim's father and he protects Tim.

4. Tim's mom- Tim's mom is important because she tries to make Tim think that his father isn't dead.
1. One of settings are Sam's house because there is where Sam and his father have a fight.

2. Another setting is the town called Redding.
