Transcript of OLD - DO NOT USE Goal Setting#2

Five- year goals or one-year goals are hard to work with...but, by breaking them down into
monthly or even weekly goals...
you have something tangible to work with.
BUY INTO GOAL SETTING
In other words...buy into
taking control over your life.
Reject the route that most people take...
shuffling down the path of least resistance...
trying to make the most of it.
If you don't know where you're going -
how will you know
when you get there?
START BY FANTASIZING...

This is the fun part...how often do people take the time to actually think about their dreams for the future?
If you could do anything...what would you do?

If you could be anyone...who would you be?

What would you do - if you knew you could not fail?

What would you do for nothing?

Imagine you are talking to the person you are going to be in ten years...
How does that person look or speak?
Think?
Does he or she have any advice for you?
What were your childhood dreams?
What are your daydreams?
Let your imagination soar...
This is YOUR life...you can make it whatever you want!
SET UP A
WRITTEN GOAL-SETTING SYSTEM

This is a giant step toward realizing your goals...
Putting your goals down
on paper allows you to see them...
Which makes it easier to do them
Re-work
Focus
Prioritize
Use them
The most important thing to remember is to...
MAKE YOUR GOALS YOUR OWN.
TURN YOUR GOALS INTO
DEADLINES

The trick is this...Turn your
long-term
goals into short-term ones
Assign them deadlines

DEADLINES have a magical way of
producing
results...

So - give yourself lots of them
MAKE THEM SPECIFIC AND MEASUREABLE...

Let's say your one-year goal is to become more visable in your company. What does that really mean?

Offer a new idea every day?

Volunteer at least once a week?

Come to work early and stay late?
7 Habits of
Highly Effective People
"You can do much more ...
and do everything much better than
you think you can!
PLAN your life...don't just experience it".

KEEP YOUR GOALS FRONT & CENTER
Carry them with you
Keeps your attention focused...
Mninimizes the
chance that you will get caught up in trivia...&
waste time on accomplishments that really aren't important to you

REVIEW YOUR GOALS
Monthly (at least)
Put them through the 4-R test

#5
PERSIST & PREVAIL
Know that as your life goals change...
you can change your goals - BUT you don't have to.

Remember the magic word for achievement is

PERSISTENCE

People who reach their goals find ways to circumvent the
roadblocks and wrong turns

ABANDON Goals..
.ONLY
if they have LOST MEANING for YOU...never because they are too
TOUGH
or You've had a setback

Don't ever forget that anonymous classic:

USE GOAL - SETTING TO MANAGE

Just as goals give us direction and energy

Use them to do the same for those you will
work with
- Top ten
- Monthly Goals
For many people Goal-Setting is a difficult process
Remember - Goal Setting involves 3-steps:

1. Actually State the Goal
- It must be specific and measureable
- You are looking for ACTION - not good intentions
NOT: Improve relations with our distriburtors.
BUT: "Launch a monthly newsletter to our distributors

2. State the strategies and activities that must be used to
achieve the goals - specifics
SUCH AS: Buy a computer to produce a newsletter
Take a course in news writing and design...

3. Agree on Measurement Standards
- What will indicate a goal achieved?
4. EVALUATION
- Did you reach the goal?
- How close did coe
- What must be done?
#10.
Ask Yourself- " WHY DO I WANT THIS?

Here we encounter the major misconception about goals...
...."the idea that once they are set they must be achieved"

This attitudie not only misguided...it is destructive and the source of a lot of anxiety and low-esteem.

"WHEN DO WE EVER HAVE WHAT WE WANT?
often we deicate ourselves to the pursuit of goal..

Thinking that once we achieve it...we will have it made...

Have you ever gotten what you wanted...and been disappointed in the result...

DON'T FORGET..
- while you are grabbing for the brass ring...don't forget to enjoy the merry-go-round.

Goal Setting
Assessing Your Life - is
the First Step To Changing It!

What is it that you want to be? to have? Or, to do?

If you could wave a magic wand over your life right now and have
whatever it is that you want what would be there?

If, from the moment you wake up tomorrow morning your life is just perfect,
how will you know?

What is it that you truly love?

What do you want so much that it brings a big grin to your face just thinking about it?
What makes you say 'Awesome'?

What would your life look like if it included the things you love?

What would your ideal life look like if there were no limitations?

What would you love to do if you had all the money in the world?

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

If you could just achieve one big goal what would it be?

What is it that you want to be? to have? Or, to do?

STEP BY STEP PROCESS TO SET PERSONAL GOALS

STEP 1

In my experience most of life’s busy-ness falls into one of the following nine areas:

1. Health & Fitness

2. Career & Work

3. Relationships

4. Social Life

5 .Personal Development

6. Finances

7 .Quality of Life

8. Spirituality

9. Contribution

So, the starting point, before you learn how to set personal goals and begin the process of change, is to assess ALL of these nine areas in your OWN life.

Under each category:
1. Make a list of hat you would
like to accomplsih.
2. Prioritize
Rank by a,b, or c
Think about and develop a stratgy to
help pyou achieve each goal.
What can you begin doing now?
What preparations is needd?
Develop a step-by-step plan.

Concentrate on 1-year objectives

Decide the price you are willing to pay to get what you want.
How hard are you willing to work?
