The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod: Ninth Grade Slays
Rating: I would rate this book an 8 out of 10 because it really keeps your attention in the book even though some parts are kind of confusing.
In this story Vladimir Tod (also known as Vlad) is the most outstanding character. Vlad is a vampire and only his family and Henry know that.
Vlad's Family
Vlad lost his mother and father in a house fire. The house fire occured when Vlad was at school. The death of Vlad's parents wouldn't have happened if he didn't turn their alarm clocks off to let them sleep in.

Where does he live ?
Vladimir lives with Nelly. Nelly is his aunt. Ever since the death of Vlad's parents Nelly has been taking care of him. Nelly works at a hospital. The hospital she works at is where she gets the blood that Vlad feeds off of.
Who are Vladimir's friends?
Henry is Vladimir's best friend. Henry is also Vlad's drudge.
Joss is also a good friend of Vlad's and is also Henry's cousin.
The three of them (Vlad, Henry, and Joss) all attend Bathory High School together as freshman.
Does Vladimir have enemies?
Vladimir definately has enemies, but not only at school... His enemies at school are Tom and Bill. Those two boys are always picking on Vlad until one day at Matthew's Halloween party he finally defended himself. Out of school another vampire named D' Ablo is after him but doesn't exactly get Vlad himself.

The Elements
Theme
There are multiple themes expressed in The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod: Ninth Grade Slays. One theme is, “Strength depends on the amount of power you put in.” Another theme is, “Life is what you make of it.” The last theme is, “Learning is something you will do throughout your whole life.”

Tone/Voice
Brewer, also known as the narrator, does not only reveal the thoughts and actions of the main character, Vladimir Tod, but also those of multiple other characters. Brewer also never uses the word “I,” other than in dialogue, when talking about another character. Therefore, The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod is written in the omniscient point of view.
The tone of the book is not only sad or serious, but in little parts throughout the it there is an exciting and funny mood. I think that the voice of Ninth Grade Slays is bewildered because you don’t really know what's going to happen next because there is rarely any foreshadowing.

Narrator
Well That's Ironic!
Vlad has been being hunted by a vampire slayer and he hasn't yet found out exactly who the vampire slayer is. But... later on Vlad finds out that Joss is the vampire slayer from Joss himself. Isn't that ironic? One of Vlad's best friends was the one hunting him and neither on of them were aware of it.
I picked this quote from this book because when I first read that and nothing else I never realized that the picture of was Vladimir and that he was going to be hunted down.
"JASIK GRIPPED THE PHOTOGRAPH in his hand and scanned the face of the boy," (Brewer 3).
