Arranging a dream visit for mostly Hazel, and Gus. Gus uses his one and only Wish from a cancer foundation to plan a trip to Amsterdam with full accommodations.
The plot progresses when Hazel and Gus are visiting in Amsterdam. During the trip Gus delivers the news that his cancer has gotten much worse. The tables turn and now Hazel is the healthiest of the two. they both visit Peter van Houten, Hazel's favorite author who published "An Imperial Affliction". Hazel truly believes that this very novel understands her in various ways that she can not began to fathom. Hazel and Augustus visit Peter in Peter's frequent drunken states. the visit does not turn out well...at all.
Falling Action
The falling action occurs when Augustus's state in cancer plummets in an downward. Augustus gets weaker and Hazel and Gus's love gets stronger.
Hazel goes through a terrible, painful mourning in the result of Augustus's death. In the end, Gus dies first of the two but Hazel knows that Gus wouldn't just leave without a note. Hazel Gus's letter to Peter van Houten and declares peace.
Theme #2: Existence
Hazel and Augustus are fully aware of the definite fact the they have cancer in their bodies. They figure out their personal values in the world that in one reason strengthens their passionate love for each other.
Point of View
This novel is written is first-person point of view. "In some ways it doesn't feel like I wrote from a capital-F female point of view you know, it feels like I wrote from Hazel's point of view," He stated on the audiobook of the Fault In Our Stars.
Augustus likes to smoke cigarettes, but he does not light them realizing that if you don't give something the power to kill you when you have power, it won't.
The suspense in this novel constantly reoccurs. The question that I began to ask myself, "Will it be Hazel or Gus that perishes first," I said "Who will it be?" Sounds awful right? But the happen when Isaac goes blind, Augustus's cancer return in his body, when Augustus uses his wish, and many more. The suspense is frequently intense.
Literary Terms
In this novel, the imagery is spread out very widely. Green uses thoughts of the characters, and brings them to life. thoughts motion throughout the story as just part of the scenes, but soon turn out to become major parts of the plot.
Theme #1: Mortality
The realization of death very clear to most of mankind Simple to put it: we are all going to die. Although for the two teens Hazel and Augustus come with a deadline. The theme of mortality is generally spread through the novel.
This novel takes place in two different places in the world: Indianapolis, Indiana and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Hazel and Augustus attend support group a basement of a church to discuss their cancer journey with a group of other cancer survivors.

Pictures of Augustus (Gus) and Hazel are of the actors, The Fault In Our Stars is being made into a Motion Picture.
Augustus Waters talks about leaving his legacy behind with him throughout the novel. Gus decides that cancer will not define him. But when cancer defines him state of health, things change. Gus simply loves Hazel with all of his heart. Augustus says “Augustus, perhaps you’d like to share your fears with the group.”
“My fears?”
“I fear oblivion,” he said without a moment’s pause. “I fear it like the proverbial blind man who’s afraid of the dark.”
“Too soon,” Isaac said, cracking a smile.
“Was that insensitive?” Augustus asked. “I can be pretty blind to other people’s feelings.”
― John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
Gus has Hazel make an 180 degree turn in herself completely. Hazel goes from timid and feeling small and to a free spirit isn't a shy to sharing her feelings...because of Augustus. Augustus and Hazel are like triangles trying to fit in star, similar but different learning things from the other.
Main Character: Augustus "Gus" Waters
Ansel Elgort
Shailene Woodley
Hazel realizes that she is going to die, but sooner then she thinks. Hazel knows that her well-being will be determined by love, loss, hope, and disappointed. The fact the lung cancer can't seem completely take over Hazel emotional self, but can roll in the physical abilites that "normal" people have unable to perform such 'average" things. Hazel has an oxygen tank that she carries around with her and has tubes entering her nose 24/7, this helps her breathe.
Main Character: Hazel Grace Lancaster
Strengths & Weaknesses:
I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO LIKE, EVERYONE. In all seriousness--this is an absolutely amazing novel and I...I love it. Enough said.
What I Personally Took From This Novel:
I learned that we only get one life, one chance. As this I already knew, but this book by John Green really reassuring this information. So many of us are emensly unhappy with ourselves, whether its our body, our state of health, our relationships, and the other endless things we complain about. It's almost as if we are NEVER SATISFIED! With anything. Humans never become fully satisfied the things that we have all began to want more and more and more until really, there is now more.
Strengths & Weaknesses:
Hazel Grace's courageous demeanor exudes strength in various ways in battling lung cancer with many operations only trying to extend her life failing to cure the disease, in toddling with the mere fact of dying on the estimated date, attempting to emotionally support her family when she actually needs emotional support herself (being one of her downfalls also). Hazel Grace (just Hazel) had the weakness of not opening up to her feelings as much before Gus entered her life.
“My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations.”
― John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
Gus knows he's hot. I mean good-looking.............. But, anyway Augustus does not shy away from his charm and tremendous effect on others. His attractiveness isn't one of his weaknesses, although his kind heart doesn't potienailly hurt other people. Gus likes to have everything be calm and chill, even with his cancer, particularly his osteosarcoma. his never intends to harm anyone mentally emotionally with his conflicts such as these deadly disease.
Augustus's motivation to stay alive is for his family and for Hazel. “I'll fight it. I'll fight it for you. Don't you worry about me, Hazel Grace. I'm okay. I'll find a way to hang around and annoy you for a long time.” (Page 215)
― John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
To this non classic romance-realistic fiction novel, I highly noticed that this is NOT your stereotypical love duet, but more so two endearing, heartfelt unreal human being some come to know. What surprised me was that Hazel's mom's was in school and kept a secret although unsurprisingly, Hazel was estatic for her mother's success. My disappointment lied in the fact that Isaac actually went blind because of cancer and that he had no lover to go through it with. Isaac's breakup had a tremendous affect on not only Isaac, but both Hazel and Augustus.
Memorable Scene:
When Gus generously shares his wish with
Hazel, they both travel to Amsterdam to visit Hazel's favorite author. Which does not go very well, like, at all.
This is the type of cancer Augustus has:
"Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer, and the sixth most common type of cancer in children. Although other types of cancer can eventually spread to parts of the skeleton, osteosarcoma is one of the few that actually begin in bones and sometimes spread (or metastasize) elsewhere, usually to the lungs or other bones."

Augustus and Hazel have cancer. These are what kinds:
Now for Hazel:
Lung Cancer occurs when cancer cells began to adapt and grow inside of your lungs.
