Jason Robert Brown's somber, true story musical of a southen mob lynching a jewish man. It Goes unnoticed until Tony's when it's the only book musical against Footloose. It wins for Best Book and Score.
With music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, and a book by Peter Stone, Titanic won 5 Tony's including Best Musical. In contrast to the most popular musicals of the day, Titanic is very nearly an Anti-Mega Musical which focused on artistry of content as opposed to grand size and scope.
