Care for God's Creation Care for God's Creation by: Sarah Abonizio, Kelly Mannion, Michaela McCool, and Kathleen Quinlisk Definition The 7th Catholic Social Teaching Theme is Care for God's Creation. It teaches us that we, as humans, have the responsibilty to respect and care for all life because it is a gift from God. This includes caring for the earth, plants, animals, and humans, as we too are part of God's creation. Environment One way that we can care for creation is by taking care of the environment. There are many ways we can do this, including respecting animals, reducing, reusing, recylcing, not littering, and by doing so improving our carbon footprint. People As humans, we too are part of God's creation. In fact, we are a very special part, as God has made us in God's own image and likeness. There are many different ways that we can show respect to ourselves and others so as to respect God. This includes eating well, telling the truth, not drinking or smoking, respecting others property, and being kind to others in general. Vandalism Animals Healthy Body

Reduce B Animals are an important part of God's creation. Because of this, we must respect them and treat them with kindness. We also have to respect that they have rights to, and we need to uphold these rights so that we can live in harmony with them. Another important thing we need to do to respect animals is respect the places they live, because the earth is their home, too. This means that we have to respect forests, oceans, and any other place that animals make their home. God loves us very much, and dwells inside us. We need to respect our bodies to respect God, because are bodies are a temple of God. One way we can do this is by watching what we consume. By making sure we eat healthy foods, we keep our bodies healthy and functioning properly. Also, it is important that we do not smoke, drink, or do drugs. This disrespects our bodies, as well as hurts other people. Because God dwells in each and every one of us, it is extremely important to respect others. This includes respecting others property. One major part of respecting others property is not vandalizing. This means not ruining or damaging others property, and leaving it in the same condition it previously was. It is important to do this to respect others, and also because it is not kind or fair. You have to put youself in the other persos position, becuase you wouldn't want someone messing with your things either. Articles The two articles we read last night were about helping the environment. The first was about a building made out of recycled bottles to raise awareness to recycle. The second was about how we are called by God to care for God's creation. What did you think of them? What did they teach you? Questions What did you learn about the 7th Catholic Social Teaching Theme, Care for God's Creation? What did you learn about the environment and ways we can help and respect it? What did you learn about people and how we can respect ourselves and others? Are there any questions you had or anything you would like to discuss further? The Three R's The 3 R's are guidelines to keeping our earth a beautiful place to live. They stand for reduce, reuse, and recycle. By reducing, reusing, and recycling, we can keep the world beautiful and save it for generations to come.

Reuse Recycle By reducing, we use less. This leaves more for the earth, or reduces the amount of harmful substances we give back to the earth. Examples of how we can do this are turning off lights when we leave a room, using reusable water bottles, and turning off the computer when it is not needed. Are there any other ways we can reduce? Instead of throwing things away, we can recycle. This means that the things are used again in different products so that we don't take more from the earth. We can recycle many different things, including old papers, glass bottles, and many different kinds of plastic. Is there anything else we can recycle? Reusing means using things again so that we do not have to take more from the earth. This is someting that is very simple, but often overlooked. Examples of how we can reduce are using the other side of paper, using washable cups and utensils, and bringing your own bag to the supermarket. What are some other ways you can reuce?
We can change the world and the fate of our planet. In fact, it is our responsibility to keep our home healthy and beautiful so that some day, we can pass it
on to our children. We can do this thousands of different ways, from recylcing to being kind to others. They may seem like small contributions but many small actions can lead to one big help! What are some examples of how can we change the way we live to help the environment? What are some ways we can change our actions to help others? We Can Make a Difference... Things are Changing... Not only are people changing the way they live, but so are large companies and corporations. They are using their money and connections as an advantage to save our home. SunChips, Nike, Toyota, and WFF are just a few of them, as shown by tese types of commrcials they play on TV. Can you name some others?
Others... Something very important that we can't forget about is helping people, too. There are so many ways we can do this, from being kind to keeping our bodies healhy, which are demonstrated in the folowing videos.Though it may seem like it doesn't really matter, if we all try hard we can make the world a better place! Can you think of any other examples of how to help people? [7:56:17 PM] Michaela McCool: http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0208/p09s01-coop.html
