27 long years later, Nelson Mandela was released from prison. Nelson Mandela started right back from where he left off, and with his work, the first anti-racial elections in South Africa took place in 1994. The people of South Africa voted Mandela president. He remained president until 1999. He retired in 1999, and lived a healthy life until February 2001 where he was diagnosed with a prostate cancer.
He died 12 years later.
-Every July 18 is Nelson Mandela day. You are supposed to devote 67 minutes to helping someone just as Mandela spent 67 years serving his country. It's a big difference. Years to minutes.

Nelson Mandela was born July 18,
1918. He survived for 95 years and
unfortunately died on December 5,
2013. Nelson Mandela was a social
rights activist who stood up for what
he believed. He was leader of the
resistance, and because of that, he
was charged for treason. In 1962, he
began his life-long sentence in jail.
