What is
Operation Smile? Operation Smile is an international children’s medical charity founded in 1982 that provides free surgeries to treat cleft lip and palates in developing countries What Is
Cleft Lip/Palate? Cleft lip and palate are gaps that occur during development either in the lip, palate, or both. It happens in 1 in 800 births in the U.S. and 1 in 500-600 births in developing countries What's So
Bad About It? From the start, cleft lip/palate can cause eating, speech, teeth, and ear problems. If untreated, it can cause psychological problems such as low self-esteem. What's
Being Done? Through donations, Operation Smile provides surgeries to the people who can’t afford it. It’s a 45 minute procedure and costs $240, and it helps people to live normal lives. Before After Goals Ayala Operation Smile Our goals here at Ayala are first, to help raise awareness about cleft lip/palate and Operation Smile, and second, to raise funds that will go towards the surgeries. The club requires a 2.0 GPA, a $5 Club fee that will go towards fundraising, and at least 2 events per semester. Club Requirements You can get a cord for graduation if you have a total of at least 20 hours and are in the club your senior year. Cords President:
