Argument or persuasive text can be found in books, periodicals, (especially in editorials or letters to the editor), pamphlets, advertising, speeches, and on the Internet.
It's helpful to know how to recognize argument or persuasive text and to know the methods an author uses to sway your opinion.
Functional Text helps us to function in our day-to-day lives.
You use functional text to follow directions, gain information, use references, and fill out forms.
People rarely read functional text from beginning to end. They skim and scan to get what they need. The author uses features such as headings, subheadings, lists, labels, and graphics to make it easy for the reader to find what they need.
More and more, people are accessing functional text online instead of in paper form.
Literary nonfiction might be written as a narrative (story) or contain narrative parts.
Speeches, letters, and and documents such as the Declaration of Independence can sometimes be classified as literary nonfiction.
