Beowulf is a poem written in the Anglo Saxon time period using Old English between 700A.D. and 1000A.D. The oldest surviving epic poem in British Literature is both fact and fiction. The narrative describes a great Scandinavian warrior during the sixth century. Since the story was told and retold numerous times before it was written down, Beowulf has no known authors. The poem tells the story of Beowulf, a Geatish hero who fights the monsters Grendel, Grendel's mother, and a fire-breathing dragon. Beowulf is known to be a warrior in his youth who later becomes a noble and wise ruler.
