Transcript of Romans 8:17
We are to delight in the relational intimacy that sanctification and the process of sanctification develops between God and us.
With God the Father this is expressed in His adoption of us and our delight and trust in Him.
With God the Spirit this is expressed in the confirmation of the Spirit that we are the children of God.
With God the Son this is expressed in our connection to Christ as heirs and as sufferers.
Heirs of God
Joint-Heirs with Christ
Heirs of Glory
“7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. 8 And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”
“25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
“16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
“7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.”
“The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.”
1 John 3:2
“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”
“3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”
Sanctification and Suffering
All suffering can be Christ's Suffering
Living out Connection to Christ
My suffering is never for me alone. So, how can I bring others into this for my growth, their encouragement, and God’s glory? Romans 12:15
My suffering is a springboard to remember my inheritance in God and with Christ. So, what things are losing their luster in the face of this suffering that makes me love God more? Romans 8:17
My suffering is uniquely shrinking the gap between me and Christ and does not compare with the glory to come. So, how can I be open and transparent to let more of the glory of Christ come out of my brokenness? 2 Corinthians 4:7-12
