The Path of a Water Droplet It all starts here in the sky The water droplet starts as just water in the air. The water in the air then condenses. When it becomes too heavy, it falls as a drop of water. Here, the water has finally hit the ground and will now run to the roots of the plant... where the actual journey begins. The water is now at the roots. The water and any other nutrients diffuse through the root hairs and into the plant. This process is called Osmosis. Osmosis is where a high concentration of water diffuses to a low concentration of water through a semi-permeable membrane. The xylem picks up the water and distributes it to the leaves in the leaves. The water usually goes through the xylem to the leaf to help the process of photosynthesis. (Xylem) The water that was brought through the xylem to the leaf is then distributed to the many different veins inside the leaf. (Leaf) Inside each vein there are countless numbers of chloroplast cells. Diffusion occurs and the chloroplast cells then contain water by diffusion. The sun's energy which is measured in photons is then collected by something called the thylakoid inside the chloroplast. Water molecules are then split into hydrogen and oxygen by the photons. Carbon dioxide then enters the leaves through the stomata in order to make glucose. The carbon dioxide and hydrogen molecules then bond. The excess oxygen that came from the water molecules is released through the stomatas. THANK YOU!!!
