MISSION STATEMENT
SUBJECTS
1ST YEAR:
IRISH, ENGLISH, MATHS, FRENCH, GERMAN, MUSIC, ART, PHYSICAL, EDUCATION, HOME ECONOMICS, HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY, WOODWORK, RELIGION, C.S.P.E., SCIENCE AND BUSINESS STUDIES.

2ND -3RD YEAR:
IRISH, ENGLISH, MATHS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION WOULD BE COMPULSORY.
PICK AT LEAST 1 FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND 7 FROM 11 OTHER SUBJECTS TO CONTINUE FOR JUNIOR CERTIFICATE

4TH YEAR:
MATERIAL ON ALL LEAVING CERT SUBJECTS WILL BE INTRODUCED AS WILL AS OTHER MODULES SUCH AS ROAD SAFETY, FIRST AID, YSI, BUILD A BANK, MOCK TRIALS, DEBATING, CREATIVE WRITING ECT.

LEAVING CERTIFICATE:

STUDENTS WILL DO IRISH, ENGLISH AND MATHS, 1 FOREIGN LANGUAGE IS ADVISED AND PICK 3 OTHER SUBJECTS FROM THOSE TAKEN AT JC BESIDES C.S.P.E.
WELLBEING
Well being is an initiative set up to focus on maintaining and developing students' attitudes and awareness about their own mental, social, physical and emotional health.
This initiative is designed differently for each year group depending on their needs and stage of adolescence. A mixture of material from topics such as PE, S.P.H.E., careers, health, and state of mind is designed and depending on the year applied into their timetable. Also at the end of every day for 15 minutes students have a 'wellbeing time out' where different activities relating to the material are discussed or carried out from mediation to physical activity. Students would remain in their classrooms of their last class and complete the short task. I believe the addition of this program into my school setting would prove invaluable to students as they develop throughout adolescents.
TIME TABLE
6 CLASSES OF 1 HOUR IN LENGHT
1ST YEARS:
WILL STUDY 15 SUBJECTS AT ANY ONE TIME. -HALF OF THE YEAR WILL TAKE HOME ECONOMICS AND THE OTHER HALF WILL TAKE WOODWORK UP TO CHRISTMAS AND VISA VERSA FROM JANUARY TO MAY. -EACH SUBJECT WILL BE TAUGHT FOR 2 HOURS EACH WEEK.

JUNIOR CERTS:

WILL HAVE 11 SUBJECTS TO STUDY. THEY WILL HAVE 3 HOURS OF ENGLISH, IRISH AND MATHS AND 2 HOURS OF EACH OTHER SUBJECT. PE WILL BE GIVEN 3 HOURS AND S.P.H.E. GIVEN 1 HOUR UNDER THE TITLE OF WELLBEING. STUDENTS WILL HAVE THREE HOURS OF SUPERVISED STUDY EACH WEEK DURING SCHOOL TIME

LEAVING CERTS:
WILL HAVE FOUR HOURS OF EACH OF IRISH ENGLISH AND MATHS AND 3 HOURS EACH OF THEIR OTHER 4 CHOSEN SUBJECTS. 3 HOURS WILL BE ALLOCATED TO WELLBEING(PE, HEALTH, CAREERS AND S.P.H.E.) AND THE REMAINING THREE HOURS WILL BE SUPERVISED STUDY TIME.

As I am a student PE teacher my vision for post primary schooling in Ireland would also include the following initiatives.

breakfast clubs- healthy breakfasts would be available for students who for whatever reason may be coming to school without food
lunchtime physical activity activities: walking club, jogging club, gym club, skipping club
Walk to school: increase students and teachers daily physical activity by walking to school if it is possible.

I feel strongly that these ideas and programs will positively affect students' academic performance while also giving them all the tools to become life long pursuers of physical activity and healthy eating.
PROMOTING A
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
Our school shop would sell healthy, nutritious, and tasty food at reasonable prices.

DINNERS:
lasagna, chicken curry, shepherds pie etc. -3euro

LUNCH:
Rolls, sandwiches, wraps and salads would be on sale -3euro

SNACKS:
Rice cakes, popcorn, fruit pieces, fruit salads etc.

DRINKS:
Water, apple and orange juice etc. would also be on sale

Water fountains with fresh drinking water would be located around the school.
Sweets, chocolate, crisps, fizzy drinks or cakes would not be sold in the schools shop.
No vending machines with confectionery foods would be accessible on the school grounds
EXTRA
CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The participation of students in extra curricular activities would be encouraged for the development of skills such as communication, teamwork etc. as well as for students' personal enjoyment and satisfaction ...

Activities such as debating, green schools, camogie, hurling, trad(music), orienteering, football, ladies football, soccer, hockey, dance, basketball, equestrian etc would available.

In this prezi I hope to illustrate a new vision for post-primary schooling in Ireland. My blog will map out how school would look in my vision, from subjects and timetables, to my mission statement for the school, to its extra curricular activities. In this vision, I have changed the position of PE in post-primary schooling to be compulsory and an examinable subject from 1st to 4th year. It is option for examination in the senior cycle. It is also a fundamental component of the wellbeing initiative that I aim to implement through out all year groups.

This image suggests how unstable an individuals' wellbeing can be. 'Each time an individual meets a challenge, the system of challenges and resources comes into a state of imbalance, as the individual is forced to adapt his or her resources to meet this particular challenge'.This is particularly relevant for adolescents who are going through a time of changes, growth and development on their way to be adults. I believe it is important for a school to help in this process as much possible. I believe the initiative i have described previously would do this effectively (Dodge, Daly, Huyton & Sanders, 2012).
