Analysis Questions:
1. Which row was the best placement for the pansies, hydrangeas, and sunflowers? Explain your answer.
-Pansies had to be in row 1 because it needed the most shade to fully function. Hydrangeas was in between the two other plants because it needed both shade and the sun. The Sunflower grows in the sun so it was placed all the way to the right where the sun reflected the most.
2. Describe the process of germination and plant growth you observed in the lab activity for a monocot plant.
-The process of germination and plant growth i observed for a monocot plant is that as i watered the plants, a leaf poked out of the seed and it continued to grow solo for 9 days straight.
3. Describe the process of germination and plant growth you observed in the lab activity for a dicot plant.
-The process of germination and plant growth that i observed for a dicot plant is that when i watered the plant, a few tiny leaves started to grow out of the seed.
Analysis Questions pt 2:
4. Which of your plants was a dicot? Which was a monocot? How could you tell?
-The only dicot plant was the hydrangeas because it was the only one who had multiple leaves growing in the first 9 days. The 2 monocot was the pansies and the sunflowers because they both had one leaf at the beginning.
5. What was the correct water level for germination? Why did this water level work best for all the plants in the garden?
-The correct water level was 2cm because it was enough to help the plants grow and not so much that the plants would die.
6. What water level did you select for plant growth during your first attempt? Describe the observations of your plants at this water level. Based on your data, was the level you picked the best choice for optimum growth?
-The water level i used in my first attempt was 2cm and it helped the plants grow. Then when it came to helping it continue to grow i raised the level up 1 more cm so i began using 3cm of water and this caused the pansies to not grow.
7. What pH level did you select for plant growth? Describe the observations of your plants at this pH level. Based on your data, was the level you picked the best choice for optimum growth?
-I used a High pH level for the plant growth and it worked out perfect because the plants all grew and stayed healthy.
8. Describe your observations of plant growth in zero gravity. Can you provide possible reasons for the growth patterns?
-When the zero gravity is turned off, the plants began to die within 6 weeks because there was no air and sun to help them grow.
Conclusion Questions:
1. In a real garden, which hormones would stimulate seed germination and plant growth?
-In real garden I wouldn't pick an area with a lot of sun and i also wouldn't feed it so much water on a daily basis.
2. Based on your experiences with the Virtual Garden, how would you set up a real backyard garden? Describe what you learned about plant behavior in this lab that will help you cultivate a healthy garden.
-If i were to start a garden, i would first need to make sure i have the perfect spot with sun being reflected on it and at the same time not be hitting the area too hard. Next i would check the soil to know whether or not it needs to be changed. Then i would put the seeds in order by rows. After all that is done, i would check on the plants every day and water it every other day.
