By Chloe Fawcett
6th period The story begins with a physically and mentally disturbed man named Erik. But not everything about him is awful. He is an architectural genius. He is called the "Opera Ghost" because he lives in the cellar of the Opera House that he helped construct. Christine Daae is a new singer in the Opera House. When Erik sees her, he falls head over heels in love. She begins hearing a angelic voice, and she believes it is the "Angel of Music", a figure she has heard of in her childhood. He then captures her, and keeps her in the cellar. He forces her to marry him, and she receives a gold ring. But she is in love with a longtime friend named Raoul, and Erik understands. So he lets her free, but not without a promise. She promises to come to his funeral. Three weeks later, Erik dies of a broken heart. but Christine keeps her promise and returns to bury him. She then slips the gold ring back onto his finger. The book "Phantom of the Opera" was written by Gaston Leroux, a novelist. He was born May 6, 1868 and died April 15, 1927 at age 58. When Gaston first wrote the book, it wasn't well received. In fact, the only reason why it became famous is because of the Broadway play in the 1980s. Overall, I think this book is quite a melancholy read, for it is about a lost soul who has never been loved. However, ever since reading this book, I have been consumed with traveling to New York to see it on Broadway. It may be sad, but it is one of the best books I've ever read. It's mysterious and dramatic traits give it a ring that I've never felt before while reading a book. I definitely recommend it! Author Setting Musical Probably the most famous Phantom of the Opera musical is by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1986. Some of the songs in the musical are The Music of the Night, The Mirror, and All I Ask of You. These are just a few of the many wonderful songs. What Makes You Think About
Phantom of the Opera? He believed Erik was a real person. When a skeleton was found at the Opera House, Gaston claimed it was Erik because it had a gold ring on it's finger. THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!
