Statistics
The the medium age of onset for bipolar disorder is 25 although the illness can start in early child hood or as late as the forty and fifties. An equal number of men and women develop bipolar illness and is found in all ages, races, ethnic groups, and social classes.
Statistics
Bipolar affects 5.7 million adults in america. Or about 2.6 % of the US population age 18 and older every year. More than 2/3 of people with bipolar disorder have at least one close relative with the illness or unipolar.
Who's at Risk
Anybody can have bipolar because of anxiety. Genetic and family history is also a factor. If someone in your family has it then you are more likely to have it.
Nobody really knows the cause of bipolar disorder. Genetic, environmental, and neurochemical are factors that can cause Bipolar.
Definition
A mental disorder marked by the alternating periods of happiness and depression.
Signs and symptoms
Some signs may be increase in activity and energy, excessive talking and racing thoughts.
Inflated self-esteem, Unusual energy, and Poor concentration are other symptoms. Insomnia or oversleeping is also a sign or symptom.
Treatments
Depending on how bad the symptoms are, you can have intial treatment, continued treatment, day treatment programs, substance abuse treatment, and hospitalization. Some meds they can use lithium, anti psychotic drugs, and antidepressants,
