Australia's area is 7686,850 km2
Most people are living in the outer part, so there are not much people to using the inner land. The main reason is that Australia has lots of land, oil, mineral and coal but not enough people to use the resources. Population density is efferting the people who live there.
Australia has the population of 22,507,617.
The population density is 2.9 per s.q.km.
The birth rate is 12.19 births/1,000 population.
Population increase 1.09% per year.

All around the world, there are quite lots of countries which are underpopulated. (Not only Australia)
Greenland Denmark is under populated with the population of 56,916 and density is 0.026 people per sq.km. Another country which is also under populated country is Mongolia. Mongolia has the population of 6,646,487 and density is 1.7 people per sq.km.

There might be some methods to encourage population growth. Firstly, the government can give incentives to give a birth more. (or giving them the services like free educaiton or free health care) Secondly, keep the good health care system and make the death rate keep low. Also, the government can give the family the money who have more than 3 babies.
For
Against
More people pay tax
Earn more money.
Preserve culture.
Population won't die out.
Can get a bigger army in the future.
Too much pressure
for jobs, health care and
education.
