He plays basketball and is great at the sport. His coach, Coach Smith, met up with Tommy after the game and had a chat with Tommy. In this chat, Coach Smith asks Tommy if he would like to play college basketball. Coach SMith wants Tommy to be the first black college basketball player. Summary of our chapter! During this time, segregation was fading but, there were still many racist events. The hospitals were divided.
There were different water fountains.
In resteraunts, colored people were not allowed to sit at the counter.
And not many black people got into colleges. Family Tree: Abby Lewis Mary Harden Robert Smalls Lewis Virginia Bates Thomas Lewis He starts out at a basketball game. He goes to Mr. Chase's house and they talk about going to a white college. He goes to his house and talks to his mom about college Conclusion We think that the ordeal with Sheriff Moser will help the college see that African Americans do need to go to college. They have rights just like anyone else to an education. we think that he will be a really good basketball player and he will show everyone that African Americans can do anything a white person can do. The college will accept his application and see that he will help change the United States way of thinking about African Americans.
