Sonia Sotomayor Sonia Sotomayor Genealogy Sonia Sotomayor has a descent of Puerto Rican. Sotomayor's parents lived in poverty and there lives were filled with struggles. Her parents traveled to America for a brighter future for themselves and future children. Sonia Sotomayor Significance Sonia Sotomayor is famous for being the first Latina Woman to serve in the Supreme court. She was sworn in on August 9th, 2009. Sonia Sotomayor on "I do believe that every person has an equal opportunity to be a good and wise judge regardless of their background or life experiences. " Sonia Sotomayor Biography Sonia Sotomayor was born in June 25, 1954 in New Bronx, New York. Her parents were Juan Sotomayor and Celina Baez. Sonia Sotomayor was diagonesd with type 1 daibetes at the age of 8. When she was 9 years ago her father died of heart probelms at the age of 42. After that, she was there to support her mother after the lost. Ealy life Sonia Sotomayor High School and College Sonia Sotomayor graduated from Cardinal Spellman Highschool as valedictorian in 1972. She entered Princeton University on a full scholariship and graduated with as summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in History in 1976. She went on to attend Yale Law School on a full scholarship, graduated in 1979, and became a member of the New York Bar Association in 1980. Sonia Sotomayor
Early Legal Career Sonia Sotomayor went on to getting nominated by President George W. Bush for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on November 27, 1991 . During her first year in this court she got high ratings from liberal public interest groups . Sonia Sotomayor : Court of Appeals Judge On June 25 , 1997 Sonia was nominated by President Bill Clinton to a seat on U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit . Her rulings in the court were know as very just . When it came to her judgement in the court she was known for having political acceptance and balance . Sonia Sotomayor : Supreme Court Justice Highly recommended by many since the beginning of Obama's term Sonia finally got considered . Later she went on to be sworn in making U.S history . Sonia Sotormayor Swearing in Sonia's Contributions to Society Sonia Sotomayor deicated her whole life to working hard to end up where she is know despite the difficulties she's struggled through in her life. Through this she has contributed balance in the court and fair rulings . Also , as mentioned before she has contributed by being the first ever Latina female to have a seat in the U.S Supreme Court . Making the World a Better Place Sonia Sotomayor's strive and struggle through life has also made the world a better place by inspiring so many people . Inspiring people that anything is possible if you work hard no matter your cultural heritage or race . Interesting Fact Sotomayor was inspired to become a lawyer to fictional characters Nancy Drew and Perry Mason. Interesting Fact At 54, Sotomayor would be the second-youngest justice on the Supreme Court, a mere 7 months older than Chief Justice John Roberts. Gracias
