Definitions
Bill of Material (BOM)
- recipe or subassembly for a given item
Routing
- sequence of processes, operations, and work centers required to complete an action
Work Center
- people, machines or other resources needed to complete an operation
Branch/Plant
- Warehouse, Location
The BOM is the recipe...
Think about this in terms of making cookies...
The Routing lists the instructions and mixing bowl, spoon, etc.
The Routing would include mixing instructions, and list the bowl, spoon and measuring cups needed
Warehouses are where the ingredients are stored.
Manufacturing branch plants are where the work is done.
Today we'll be working in St Paul Warehouse and Manufacturing
(Branch/Plants 440 and 445)

Fixed or Variable?
Indicates whether a quantity in the recipe varies according to the quantity of the parent item produced.
Example:
A doubled batch of cookies requires twice as many chocolate chips. The chips are a
variable
quantity of the recipe.
Regardless the size of the batch of cookies, the same amount of dough will cling to the bowl and spatula. This is a
fixed
quantity.
Raw materials such as base oils, additives, bottles, caps and pallets.

- defines how JDE issues an item to the work order (WO)
