Transcript of EMERALD ASH BORER

SMALL BUG CAUSING BIG TROUBLE. EMERALD ASH BORER(E.A.B.) HABITAT INTRODUCTION THE EMERALD ASH BORER. EXOTIC, INVASIVE AND DEADLY TO NORTH AMERICA.

THIS TINY METAL GREEN COLORED BEETLE WAS ACCIDENTALLY INTRODUCED TO CANADA AND THE U.S.A. BY IMPORTED WOOD PACKAGING.
THE E.A.B ARRIVED TO NORTH AMERICA BY THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. "Agrilus Plannipennis " FEMALE REPRODUCTION IN A FEMALE EMERALD ASH BORER'S LIFE, ONE CAN PRODUCE UP TO ONLY 100 EGGS. IMPACT THIS HIGHLY DESTRUCTIVE BEETLE HAS KILLED MANY MANY ASH TREES. IT CREATES AN ENVIRONMENTAL THREAT TO FORESTED AREA ACROSS NORTH AMERICA. WITHOUT ASH TREES, MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE HIGH STRENGTH AND RESISTANCE CANNOT BE MADE. WHEN COMPANYs ARE LACKING SUBSTANCES FROM NATURE, LIKE THE ASH TREE, MATERIALS THAT ARE MADE FROM THAT BECOME MORE RARE AND EXPENSIVE. THIS BEETLE LIVES IN ASH TREES AND FIREWOOD.
IT IS NATIVE TO EASTERN RUSSIA, NORTHERN CHINA, JAPAN AND KOREA.
THE E.A.B. IS ALL OVER CANADA, IT ARRIVED IN NORTH AMERICA ON MAY 2002 THIS IS AND EGG OF THE E.A.B. IT GROWS INTO A LARVAE AFTER 7-10 DAYS. THE EGG IS LIVING ON THE BARK OF THE ASH TREES. THIS IS THE LARVAE. IT IS CREAMY WHITE COLORED AND 2.6-3.2 CM LONG. THE LARVAE LIVES ON THE BARK IN A TUNNEL. IT STARTS TO FEED ON THE ASH TREE. THE LARVAE FEEDS ON THE BARK OF THE TREE AND CUTS OF THE WATER FLOW AND NUTRIENTS. THE PUPA HAS GROWN SMALLER. THE COLOUR HAS CHANGED TO A LIGHT BROWN. THE ADULT E.A.B IS A ABLE TO FLY AND METAL GREEN COLORED FULL GROWN BEETLE. NATURAL PREDATOR(S) THE WASP IS A NATURAL PREDATOR TOWARDS THE EMERALD ASH BORER. WASPS ARE SOMETHING HUMANS ARE ALSO AFRAID OF. BUT THESE WASPS ARE STING LESS, MEANING THAT THEY AREN'T AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS US. THEY LAY EGGS ON THE LARVAE OF THE E.A.B AND AN ADDITION TO THAT, WOODPECKERS COME AND EATS THE LARVAE. DANGERS THE E.A.B FACES THE EMERALD ASH BORER CANNOT ADAPT TO COLD,HARSH WEATHERS. WHEN THEIR SURROUNDINGS TURN TOO COLD AND THEY FREEZE, THEY DIE. TO HELP OUT THIS HIGHLY DANGEROUS BEETLE THAT KILLS ASH TREES HAS TO STOP.
WE CAN ALL DO SOMETHING.
1. PEOPLE WHO CAMP OFTEN AND CARRY FIREWOOD ARE ALSO CARRYING AROUND THE EMERALD ASH BORER. THE BEETLE CANNOT FLY BUT IT CAN BE MOVED AROUND ON FIREWOOD. SO DON'T GO CAMPING TOO OFTEN. WHAT CAN YOU DO CLUES TO NOTICE WHEN A TREE HAS DIED A TREE HAS DIED! HOW CAN YOU TELL?
THE BARK CRACKS, YOU WILL START TO SEE EXIT HOLES MADE FROM THE E.A.B AND ALSO WAVY LINES.
1. BARK CRACKS ARE USUALLY 7-10 CM LONG.
2. EXIT HOLES ARE USUALLY 'D' SHAPED AND 3.5-4.1 MM WIDE.
3. THE WAVY LINES ARE ALSO CALLED THE 'S' GALLERIES.

CLUES ARE NOT JUST THERE TO HELP RESEARCHERS AND SCIENTISTS BUT CAN ALSO PROVIDE IMPORTANT PIECES OF DETAILS FOR EVERYONE! WHAT THE GOVERNMENT IS DOING TO HELP THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENTS ARE ALSO DOING SOMETHING DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE PROBLEM. MOST GOVERNMENTS ARE JUST LIMITING IT TO JUST THOROUGHLY CHECKING THE FIREWOOD THAT ARE BEING TRANSPORTED ACROSS CANADA TO REDUCE THE WIDE-SPREAD.
SCIENTISTS ARE STILL RESEARCHING FOR WAYS TO KILL THE EMERALD ASH BORER. CONCLUSION THE EMERALD ASH BORER NO MATTER HOW BIG OF A PROBLEM THE EMERALD ASH BORER CAUSES, HOW BIG OF A DAMAGE IT CREATES. THIS BEETLE CANNOT HELP IT, IT IS THE NATURE OF BEING AN EMERALD ASH BORER. SO WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS THAT IT'S REALLY JUST AN INNOCENT INSECT. THANK U 4 LISTENING 2 MY PRESENTAION! DID U KNOW THAT..... SUPER COOL/DANGEROUS FACTS ABOUT THE E.A.B! 1. THERE IS AN ESTIMATED 50 MILLION KILLED ASH TREE IN NORTH AMERICA
2. THE MORE KILLED ASH TREES, THE MORE EXPENSIVE ASH TREES MADE MATERIALS
3. IN ELVEN YEARS AN E.A.B CAN KILL ALL THE ASH TREES IN THAT REGION.
4. THERE ARE BILLIONS OF ASH TREES IN NORTH AMERICA, BUT THE EMERALD ASH BORER IS KILLING THEM MILLIONS BY EACH YEAR.
5. WHEN AN ASH TREE IS INFESTED, IT DIES IN ABOUT 3 YEARS. WHAT AM I DOING TO HELP EVERYONE CAN ALL HELP, THAT MEANS I CAN TOO. WITH MY MONEY I AM DETERMINED TO SPEND IT ON SCIENTISTS THAT ARE TRYING TO CONTINUE THEIR RESEARCH ON HOW TO STOP THE CONTINUOUS WIDE-SPREAD OF THE EMERALD ASH BORER.
IF I HAVE ANY LEFT OVER MONEY, I WILL NOT SPEND IT ON MYSELF. THE MONEY WILL ALL GO TO WEBSITES AND COMPANY'S THAT SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENT. soooo........
do u have any ?????????? DIFFRENT TYPES OF ASH TREES 12 DIFFRENT TYPES 1. BLACK ASH TREE: CAN GROW WELL IN COLD WEATHERS. NATIVE TO CANADA
