The Legacies of the Olmec, Zapotec, and Chavin Olmec Chavin This here is a tomb that was created by the Olmec. It is located in La Venta, the center of Olmec society, and was estimated to be created before 400 BCE. This tomb is made up of thick stones and is surrounded by many pillars and was believed to be used as an attraction. Zapotec This here is animal head that was created by the Chavin. It is located in Chavin de Huántar and was believed to have been created around 900 BC. This head has many details and features such as eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Many believe that the purpose of this head was to display a type of art piece. This here is giant head that was created by the Olmec. It is located in the San Lorenzo, the oldest known Olmec settlement, and was estimated to be created about over 3,000 years ago! The statue head has the features of a human man, yet no one is 100% if it does as it could also represent a priest, a leader of the Olmec tribe, etc... It was believed that this was used for symbolic, religious purposes (worshiping or to represent someone/something). This here is a marvelous pyramid that was created by the Zapotec. It is located in Monte Albán and was created in the 700s BCE. This pyramid has thousands of terraces and long, deep stone stairs. It was believed that this was used for the purpose of storing valuable items, and sometimes for the shelter of rulers in the land. If you look to your right, you will see a ball field that was created by the Zapotec. It is located in Monte Albán and was created in the 700s BCE. This ball court has a field in the middle and 2 slanted walls on both the right side and the left side. It was believed that this was used for the purpose of playing sports (ball). It was also believed that it was used for religious, sacrificing purposes. This here is a temple that was created by the Chavins. It is located in Chavin de Huántar and was created around 800 BC. This temple is made out of various colored stone and brick and has little pillars in its middle. It serves a purpose of storing valuable artifacts and ruins and was very important to the Chavin.
