How Media Affects Our Morality...
Transcript of How Media Affects Our Morality...
Media has become a grandiose influence on society.
Musical topics and movie topics are germane to the feeling of society - meaning it relates to the topics of the ongoing nation and what is happening at that one moment.
Some parts of media tend to have a bad influence of the teenagers of society.
Skew their view on certain things, twisting their moral values and changing what they believe.
Our question is:
How does media affect the new culture?
Does it influence a person’s moral values or does it not?
The Church's view on media:
Media is alright as long as it harnesses the good in people and brings people towards the right path and to God. (Catholic.org)
Certain media is an offense toward reason, truth, and right conscience.
Today's media teaches you to
judge yourself and others, and
can affect people emotionally,
mentally and physically.
Cyberbullying is using
technology to harass,
threaten or embarrass a person.
About 52% of students have been cyberbullied.
About 4,500 teens commit suicide per year
Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death of teens.
Thousands of teens has broken the 5th commandment
and committed Social Sin (by influencing the persons suicide).
2280: Everyone is responsible for his life before God who has given it to him. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it for his honor and the salvation of our souls. We are stewards, not owners, of the life God has entrusted to us. It is not ours to dispose of.

In 1969, the singer Charles Mason created a group called 'The Mason Family'
The Mason family idolized him and followed his orders, seeing him 'Christ-like'
Mason had a theory called Helter Skelter.
Mason started listening to the Beatles 'White' album and thought that the Blacks were going to over power the whites, and wipe them out.
He and the Mason family, killed 7 people.
- 5 in Sharon Tate's home
-2 Leno & Rosemary LaBianca
They left the words
Death of the Pigs
written in the victims blood
How do you think Charles Mason got the idea of
from these songs?
81% of teens say bullying online is easier to get away with (cyberbullyinghotline.com)
Charles Mason controlled The Mason Family, changing their moral views and judgement.
The Mason family had no fortitude, too much pride and idolized Mason instead of God.
Charles Mason also accepted the role of their 'god'.
2113 Idolatry not only refers to false pagan worship. It remains a constant temptation to faith. Idolatry consists in divinizing what is not God. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons (for example, satanism), power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money, etc. Jesus says, "You cannot serve God and mammon."........
Media focuses on the flaws of people in our society.
This leads people to think badly about themselves.
Especially teenagers today.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
Commercials about skin, hair and body shapes has altered the meaning of self-love.
This affects our morality because we need self love to truly love God and others.
Helter Skelter :
Manson told the group on New Year's Eve 1968: "Are you hep to what the Beatles are saying? Helter Skelter is coming down. The Beatles are telling it like it is."
Manson thought "piggies" meant members of the Establishment.
He saw the song as telling him that the Establishment needed "a damn good whacking."
Manson thought that the Beatles were urging black people to arise and revolt against the white establishment.
Some people harm themselves trying to reach these expectations.
Doing things like
making themselves throw up
