Transcript of Stem Cells

Brain and
Spinal Cord ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) effects motor neurons that connect the brain to the spinal cord to send muscles to the body The disease weakens your muscles over time, most die from not being able to breath Future therapy for ALS patients is that they could use stem cells to replace damaged neurons or to stop them from degenerating in the first place Muscles are damaged after a heart attack because of lack of blood flow, or over time if it's a chronic heart condition. Heart Disease is the #1 killer in America. Ridged plaques form in arteries, causing build up of fats and restricting blood flow, this can cause heart attacks Future therapy could take the patient's own stem cells and inject them into the heart. Hopefully, the stem cells would repair the damaged or make new cells and restore blood flow to the heart
