Carl's an interesting fella...
Carl Hiaasen was born and raised in Florida.

He graduated from the University of Florida, at age 23. He worked for the Miami Herald. He writes a weekly column seen most Sundays in The Herald's opinion-and-editorial section.

The Setting...
The story takes place in Coconut Grove.
A quaint town in Florida where the days are
sunny and the water is always warm.

Mullet Fingers

External Conflict:
Dana beats up Roy and then
punches him in the nose.
External Conflict
Mullet Fingers tries to
stop the construction of
Mother Paula's Pancake House
by vandalizing the site.
Internal Conflict
Should Roy help Mullet Fingers
vandalize the construction site? It
is for a good cause, to save
the owl's habitat, but it is illegal.
What did I learn?
One person can do many things.
You are never too young to make a difference.
Friends stick together.
Never lose hope.
Roy, Mullet Fingers, and Beatrice
are able to halt construction of Mother
Paula's Pancake House and save the owl

Curious, friendly, forgiving

clumsy, thoughtful, hard-working
I knew I couldn't spend the rest of the school year hiding from Beatrice the Bear. I had to take a stand, even if it meant getting decapitated with my own lunch tray.
