William Henry Gates III (popularly known as Bill Gates)
Born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington, United States
Gates' parents; William Henry Gates II and Mary Maxwell Gates
Second of three children in an upper-middle class family, he had two sisters; Kristianne, who is older, and Libby, who is younger
Gates had been serious about winning, showing competitive skills even when playing with family and friends
He was extremely smart, he had always achieved straights A’s in school
Gates was a voracious reader as a child
Later on, Gates struggled in Laurelhurst Elementary, which is a public school
Gates' parents then moved him to Lakeside, a private school
After the move, his grades blossomed, he excelled in math and science and did well in drama and English
At the age of 13, Year 8, Gates found a sudden interest in computers after attending a computer club.
Bill Gates, was a very determined young man
He set his mind at the very beginning, to his dream
Gates then met his future business partner, Paul Allen (Microsoft co-founder). They shared a great interest in computers.
Gates and Allen both had a life ambition to start a computer programming business
Gates' 'natural talent in computer programming' earned himself a profit as well as being a recognisable face around school
At the age of 17, Year 12, Gates and Allen were paid $20,000 USD ($23,845 NZD) for a program called Traf-O-Data, which was used to count traffic
In early 1973, Gates graduated from Lakeside, elementary, after scoring 1590 out of 1600 on his SAT test, and was qualified to attend one of the world’s finest universities; Harvard University
Gates and Allen both decided to call their new business/company; Microsoft (micro-computers and software put together).

Gates then left Harvard university to spend more time developing their 'new' business
They worked around the clock, Gates usually had only six hours of sleep and about 18 hours programming time
Gates and Allen then developed their first operating system (OS) called ‘BASIC’.
'BASIC' was a total hit and soon many companies were signing contracts with Gates and Allen to write different operating systems for their computer products
This is how Microsoft officially began - 1978
Microsoft kept on growing, as they hired more programmers, to cope with the growing demand
Today Microsoft is the largest computer software company in the world with over 90,000 employees
Their primary goal for Microsoft was; “A computer in every desk, and in every home running Microsoft OS.”
Gates, Allen and the Microsoft team designed a new way to work with computers; a easy-learning graphical environment

In 1987 Gates was listed as a billionaire by Forbes magazine
Gates was awarded CEO of the year in 1999 by Chief Executive Officers

In 2005, Bill Gates was made a Knight Commander in honour from Queen Elizabeth
Gates was named fourth most powerful person in the world in 2012
Bill Gates semi-retired from Microsoft during 2008
After 13 years as richest man in the world, Gates was surpassed by Warren Buffet in the fall of 2008
Gates continues to work as chairman and adviser for Microsoft - but without his usual day to day duties
To this day, Bill Gates still plans to pour the same amount of energy in Microsoft despite being semi-retired. “I’m not a sit-on-the-beach type”
Gates main reason for 'semi-retiring' was to spend more time with his wife and children, and his wife and his humanitarian foundation
In 1994, January 1, Bill Gates officially married Melinda French
Gates has 2 daughters; Jennifer and Phoebe, and a son; Rory
His family resides in a $8.7 million USD ($10.4 million NZD) mansion overlooking Lake Washington
Bill Gates and Melinda encourage their children to be Catholics by participating in Church
The Gates Foundation is a humanitarian foundation, founded by Bill and Melinda Gates
Bill Gates with so much on his hands, still makes time to spend with his family, and this is very important
