Why Worry About The Gifted?
There is a cost to neglecting gifted students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Students with academic talent but limited resources make up a generation of young Americans whose future is closely intertwined with the future of the nation.

Excellence achievement gaps among different racial groups have widened in the era of NCLB.
Most states show evidence of growing excellence gaps.
Some gaps are shrinking due to decreasing performance among top-achieving students.

While the nation’s lowest-achieving youngsters made rapid gains from 2000 to 2007, the performance of top students was languid.

Gifted learners are an essential component of Illinois’ economic development.

Children located in all school districts in Illinois.
Children at every grade level.
Who Are The Gifted?
Excel or have the capacity to excel when compared with others their age, experience and environment.
Perform in the top 5% locally in any area of aptitude, and specifically in language arts and mathematics.

Gifted Students
2006 – Collaborates with legislators to restore gifted language in School Code.
2008–2009 - Partners with ISBE to produce the Gifted Education Seminar (GES) & six Companion Modules.
2009–2010 - Collaborates with ISBE to pilot and share GES with 5,000 Illinois educators.
2011–Now - IAGC poised to provide GES and companion modules across Illinois.

1989 - Educators establish IAGC.
1989 - 2003 - IAGC helps to establish Illinois as leader in gifted education.
Raises awareness of underrepresented student populations.
