Transcript of Writing an Algebraic Rule

Your data set 19, 22, 25, 28, ..... Question #2 What are the next
four terms in this set? Question #1 Write the Rule Process Step 1: Ask yourself are all the numbers
in my data set increasing, decreasing,
or alternating between increasing/decreasing
or decreasing/increasing? What is the rule for
this set of numbers? How to Write an Algebraic Rule What are the next
four terms on this set? You also noticed that each number in
the data set was increasing by 3. The numbers were increasing so you know that
addition, multiplication, or a combination of both
was applied to the data set. So what's the rule? 3x + 1
The next for terms are 31, 34, 37, 40. Step 2: If they are increasing, then addition or
multiplication is being applied and if
they are decreasing, then subtraction or
division is being applied.
Step 3: Try to recognize any patterns within in the
data set. Ex: How much are my numbers
increasing or decreasing by? How is the next
number related to the previous?
Step 4: Develop a rule. You use an in/out
table to assist you.
