Yes, in part due to free speech.

Who Was Martin Luther King Jr.?
He fought for voting rights for African Americans.

Achieved his goal without violence.

Assassinated in April 1968.
What were his goals?
Equal Rights for all.

"Real" voting rights for African-Americans.

The end to racism in the world.

End of segregation.

Won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Did He Succeed?
Generally, yes.

Voting rights are now given to all.

Racism is a crime.
Birmingham Campaign
He became famous for his non-violent Birmingham Campaign.

Forced integration of schools.

Images and video of police brutality shocked the nation.
