FOOTBALL Football was created from different forms of Rugby, which was played in the UK as early as the mid 19th century "The Father of American Football",Walter Camp made the 1st rule changes Pioneers of the game include Eddie Cochems , Amos Alonzo Stagg Knute Rockne and Glenn "Pop" Warner In 1873,representatvies from Yale,Columbia, Princeton,and Rutgers met to set standard rules NCAA football games and professional NFL games have four quarters of 15 minutes with a break or "halftime" after the second quarter The game is played in series of individual plays called downs. Between each down the ball is dead During a play, each team can only have 11 players on the field. When a team crosses the endzone, it's called a touchdown, and they recieve 6 points and they can kick an extra point or go for two points The equipment of the game today is far more protective than when football began... The equipment needed inlcudes a helmet, shoulder pads, cleats, and pads for the legs When football began, the only play allowed was a run, but the foward pass soon became a legal play On November 6, 1869 Princeton and Rutgers played in the first intercollegiate football game The game was so brutal,it was almost banned In the NFL today,there's a higher percentage of passes than runs Football requires that you are tough physically and mentally and able to think on the run Positions include the Quarterback Runningback Reciever Offensive Line Defensive Line Linebackers And and Defensive Backs Today,millions of fans tune in to hundreds of NFL games every year It is one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the world
