LEARNING ENGLISH WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS: A STUDY OF CASE
THE PROBLEM
Because of the social integration, there are some many students with special educational needs in regular elementary and high schools in Venezuela.

These kind of learners require of learning strategies than the others.

The curriculum must be adapted to their own needs. Everyone needs to develop the same skills than the others to succeed in their own society.

There is a case of high school student of Carabobo state who has slow learning and a normal intelligence quotient.
THE PROBLEM
This second year student has difficulties in learning basic vocabulary and grammar of English.

School psychologists suggest teachers to use diversified strategies which let her achieve the established educational objectives of the plan of studies for her level.

The technology can be a useful tool for encouraging her to learn basic vocabulary and grammar in English as she uses computers and internet. Besides, they can go their own learning rate.
THE PURPOSE
PROPOSED ACTIVITIES
My favorite music video.

The student will watch a music video with a catching beat and melody, she will hear it as much as she can. Then, she will be asked to record her voice as she sings along with the video. The teacher will comment positively on her performance.

I love flashcards.

The teacher will present eight flash cards with words related to the lesson seen in class so the student can recognize them. Then, the teacher will ask her to use the words to complete sentences related to a picture cue.


Hearing and Saying.
The student will be encouraged to record her voice as she hears and repeats some words or simple sentences which contain the vocabulary already shown.

My video quest.

The student will watch a short video which present a contextualized situation, then she will answer some simple comprehension multiple choice questions.
This web tool can be useful for encouraging this teen to develop their language competence in English.

The variety of strategies presented will help this student to practice and internalize the vocabulary and grammar as she uses internet and computers. Facebook can be used since results very popular and well known for the teen.

Since there will not be a limited time to finish the activities, she will go her own learning rate. She will be able to reach the linguistic competence for her level.
