Proportions What is a proportion? A propotion is a equation with a ratio on each side. Here is an example of a proportion. 3/6 = 6/12 I bet you are thinking "What is a ratio?" Well... A ratio is a comparison of numbers.

Knowing what a ratio is should help you get a better concept on what a proportion is. 3/6 is a ratio as is 6/12. That makes 3/6=6/12 a proportion. Here is how you solve a proportion - I 3 x 6 I 3 6 x So... 6 = 3x 2 = x Now try one for yourself... 3 y 6 I8 = Answer- y=9 Cross Multiply Divide
