-Takes place in 1941
"Quiet as it’s kept, there were no marigolds in the fall of
1941, " (Morrison).
Pecola Breedlove- fragile, shy, lost
" And Pecola. She hid behind hers. Concealed, veiled,
eclipsed—peeping out from behind the shroud very seldom,
and then only to yearn for the return of her mask," (Morrison 39).
Claudia Macteer - stubborn, confident, brave
Freida Macteer- protective of family, stubburn, more controlled than Claudia, brave
"Then Frieda, with set lips and Mama’s
eyes, snatched her coat from her head and threw it on the ground. She ran toward them and brought her books down on Woodrow Cain’s head," (Morrison 66).
Cholly Breedlove - greedy, full of hate
"He fought her the way a coward fights a man—with feet, the
palms of his hands, and teeth," (Morrison 43).
