Three Gorges Dam Where is the Three Gorges Dam? Place/Location Region Interactions (how the Three Gorges Dam affected the people in China) Movement Bibliography The Three Gorges Dam is in the country of China. It is the biggest dam in the world. China is a country on the continent of Asia. It is the most populated country in the world. It is right next to the Pacific Ocean. The Three Gorges Dam is in China. It is located on the the Yangtze River in China. It is by the town of Sandouping which is in the Yiling District in the city of Yichang (which is in the Hubei province). In just one city, 20,000 people were forced to move from their homes. Overall, China relocated 1.3 million people during the 17 years it took to complete the Three Gorges Dam. Natural disasters such as landslides and earthquakes also caused people to relocate. A large amount of material that was intended for use in the Three Gorges Dam went into the flooded Wuxia Gorge of the Wu River. Websites

It also improved waste-water treatment in Chongging and its surrounding areas. People were also pushed out of their homes to accommodate the dam. This affects them because they had to leave forcefully. The major problems of the Three Gorges Dan The Three Gorges Dam is turning out to cause huge problems for China. It is causing landslides. It is killing off different types of plants and animals. It is also causing some earthquake activity. The government of China is calling this a "urgent" environmental issue. The Solution Currently, the Chinese government is trying to figure out a solution to the environmental issues that the Three Gorges Dam is causing. They have tried to fix some of the problems but there has not been a certain solution. How much does the Three Gorges Dam cost? It took 17 years to build the Three Gorges Dam completely. The total cost of it is around $25 billion dollars! Interesting Facts about the Three Gorges Dam It is 181 metres tall. It generates about 18.2 million kilowatts of power. It has forced 1.13 million people to move out of their homes. Why was the Three Gorges Dam built? The Three Gorges Dam was built to create electricity and water storage for people that are migrating to a more western urban culture. As more Chinese give up farming, they are moving into urban cities. Those cities need more electricity and water for all the increasing population. They will also require more imported food since fewer people are farming. How has the Three Gorges Dam affected everyone in the world? The Three Gorges Dam has became the biggest dam in the world. It has affected the history of dams in a great deal.
