System By: Steven, Josh, Joseph and Bryce -The Respiratory system is the system for taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide; in terrestrial animals this is accomplished by breathing.
-Our respiratory system consists of the nasal cavity, pharynx (throat), larynx (voice box), trachea (windpipe), bronchi, and lungs. - When air enters through the nose, the hairs in your nose act as filters. The throat collects the air coming from your mouth and nose and sends it to the trachea. The trachea divides into the left and right bronchus. At the end of the bronchus the Alveoli enters the oxygen into the blood as energy. -Oxygen is a necessity by all living organisms. It releases the energy needed to grow, reproduce, and maintain life through many reactions. Most organisms obtain their energy from the oxidation of food. Proifera and Cnidaria Proifera and Cnidaria respirate through diffusion.
For example a sponge takes in constant water flow so it can breathe and do everything else; without water a sponge will die. Cnidarian's use an internal cavity to breathe. The water goes in through the mouth and then the internal cavity allows the Cnidarian to breathe Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, and Annelida -Respiration of Platyhelminthes occurs through diffusion. Platyhelminthes use absorption through the body wall, which is how they get oxygen. Nematoda use diffusion to breathe and for circulatory substances around their body. Annelida breathe through their skin since they do not have lungs. If an Annelida's skin becomes dry it will not be able to breath., therefore their skin must be wet in order to breathe. Mollusca, Arthropoda and Echinodermata Amphibians and Reptiles - Amphibians have permeable skin that allows them to absorb both water and oxygen directly from the environment, right through their skin. When the diaphragm pushes up you breathe out and when the diaphragm flattens you breathe in. When you breathe in the oxygen is separated from the carbon. The oxygen is then taken to parts of your body and carbon is breathed out. Amphibians: - Amphibians are cold-blooded vertebrates that spend part of their lives in bodies of water (or watery places) and part on land. Reptilians: - Reptiles are cold-blooded, air-breathing vertebrates, a group that includes snakes, lizards, turtles, tortoises, crocodiles, and alligators.
- All reptiles breathe through their lungs. Despite lacking a diaphragm muscle, reptiles have a diaphragm-type respiratory system and the act of breathing is accomplished by the reptile moving its throat or rib cage. osteichthyes:

They use simple gills and their tube feet to take in oxygen and pass out carbon dioxide.
