The first position is the serving position, you serve the ball. Next you would go to middle back, usually all you do is bump the ball since its a back position. Then you would transition into left back which is back in between left front and middle back, you are facing the setter or target. Left front is next, all front positions are hitting positions, which is where you hit the ball after the setter sets it. You may also bump short balls. The setter is the most important position on the field. You always get the second ball and you have to be really fast. You set the ball to one of the hitters after you get the ball and they will hit the ball. The last position is the front right and they are a hitter, but same as the other front position, you may bump short balls. To bump the ball, you place both of your hands together with your fingers overlapping and your thumbs pointing away from you. Your platform is what you call the really flat part and that's what you use to bump the ball. To get a good bump, turn your shoulders the direction you want to bump the ball. To set the ball, you place your hands as if you were dumping a bucket of water on your head. When setting, you don't move your hands much, you use a lot of your legs to push the ball back up and it should be almost silent when your setting. For hitting, you will need a good strong arm and a good approach. The approach is left, right-left, jump. With your hands, you first bring them forward, then push back right before you jump, and finally swing your hands up when you hit the ball. You are trying to aim down on the other team's side of the net. To serve the ball, you will need a nice toss in front of your serving hand. You have you hand back ready to hit it and if you are right handed you take a step with your left foot and drag your right foot while you swing and serve the ball. You serve from behind the boundaries. Three Laws of Motion The first law is the law of inertia, it states that whatever is already in motion will stay in motion unless an unbalanced force act upon it. An object at rest will stay at rest until an unbalanced force acts upon it. The second law explains how an object will change velocity if it is acted upon by an unbalanced force. It is also known as F=MA which is force equals mass times acceleration. The third law says with every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. It also describes how objects change momentum when they collide. Newton's Law in Volleyball Once you've hit the ball and set it in motion, it will remain in motion until it is either hit by another player or until it hits the ground. This is the law of inertia. vs. The amount of force you use to hit the ball will affect how fast the ball goes. If you hit the ball harder, it goes faster. (F=MA) Touching the ball with your hands, whether its bumping, setting, spiking, or serving, the ball will move away from you. This is an example of action and reaction. All forces acting on an object are not equal. One or more force is stronger than others. Motion occurs. Force that slows down motion. Force that attracts all objects toward each other. More mass = more gravity. Objects at rest will stay at rest until an unbalanced outside force acts on them. Objects in motion will not stop moving until an unbalance outside force acts on them. Objects with more mass have more inertia. Bigger objects are harder to start and stop. A change in velocity. Speeding up is a positive acceleration. Slowing down is an negative acceleration or deceleration. Objects accelerate in the direction of the force. The more force applied, then the more acceleration. The more mass an object has, the more force is needed to accelerate the object Forces occur in pairs. The forces are equal and opposite. One force is an action force. The other force is a reaction force. Forces occur in pairs. As much force you put on the object, there will be an equal and opposite reaction. Pushes or pulls are both force. They may cause acceleration or even in shape. Mass is how much matter an object has.
