Transcript of Children of the Holocaust

Ever since Renate was a baby she was at the bottom of the food chain. In the year she was born (October 19, 1933) the nazis have been in control of Germany. Many people decided to leave the contry but some people like Renate and her family stayed because they thought that it was only temporary but.... they soon learned that it was a horrible mistake. There was inadequate food, water, and sanitary facilities. In December 1941, when Renate was eight years old, her entire family, along with 16,000 other Jews, were sent to Riga, Latvia. (a ghetto) The people living there were killed to make room for them. Both of Renate's parens wanted to get her out of Germany. They wrote to refugee assistance organizations in England they begged but they were trapped in Germany. Renate Wolff's Story Thousands died from starvation, disease, and exposure. By December 1943 the ghetto was empty in its population. Most jews were killed or worked to death. Renate Wolff and her family's location is unknown. Credits song: Crying by Paul Collier
