Medal of Honor
The Medal Of Honor is the USA's highest military HONOR. The Medal Of Honor is rewarded by the president of the United States of America. Soldiers need to have, PATRIOTISM for their country, HONOR, VALOR, and Courage so they could earn the Medal Of Honor.
Harold Christ
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with the 4th Battalion, 10th Marines, 2d Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Marianas Islands, 7 July 1944. When the enemy launched a fierce, determined counterattack against our positions and overran a neighboring artillery battalion.
To have Honor means to have high respect and esteem. To have honor must have meant thatyou did something really good to deserve the honor of your comrades.
To have Courage means to have the ability to do something that frieghtens one. These soldiers showed courage when going into battle and not ever backing down even when they were scared.
Jacob Parrot
Herschel "Woody" Williams
Woody was born on Oct. 2 1923. He joined United States U.S, Marine Corps. By that time they were fighting the Japanese enemy on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 23 February 1945. He volunteer his services when our tanks were maneuvering vainly to open a lane for the infantry through the network of reinforced concrete pillboxes, buried mines, and black volcanic sands. Williams daringly went forward alone to attempt the reduction of devastating machinegun fire from the unyielding positions. Covered only by 4 riflemen, he fought desperately for 4 hours under terrific enemy small-arms fire and repeatedly returned to his own lines to prepare demolition charges and obtain serviced flamethrowers. By that time president Harry S. Truman gave the Medal Of Honor to him on 5 October 1945. Williams' aggressive fighting spirit and valiant devotion to duty throughout this fiercely contested action sustain and enhance the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service (http://www.cmohs.org/).
