Greetings, Introductions and Closings
Basic Spanish Conversation
In the Hispanic culture, it is customary to greet new
people using the following phrases:

Hola – Hello/Hi
Buenos días – Good morning
Buenas tardes – Good afternoon
Buenas noches – Good evening
More ways to greet...
Other optional phrases when greeting someone or responding to them are:

¿Como estás? – How are you (familiar)
¿Como está Usted/Ud.? – How are you (formal)
¿Qué pasa? – What’s up
¿Qué tal? – How is it going

Once you’ve greeted someone new, you need to introduce yourself and others!
To do so, use the following phrases:

Te/Le presento a… - Let me introduce you to…
¿Cómo se llama? – What’s his/her/your name?
Se llama… - His/her name is…
¿Cómo te llamas? – What’s your name? (familiar)
Me llamo… - My name is…
¿Quién es? – Who is he/she/it?
Es… - He/she/it is...
To reply or respond to being introduced, use the following phrases:

El gusto es mío – The pleasure is mine
Encantado/a – Delighted/Pleased to meet you
Igualmente – Same here/Likewise
Mucho gusto – Nice to meet you
When the conversation has ended,
close the conversation using these phrases:

Adiós – Goodbye
Buenas noches – Good night
Hasta luego – See you later
Hasta mañana – See you tomorrow
Hasta pronto – See you soon

Bien – Fine
Mal – Bad
