The practices held in private prisons are often poor and unhygenic compared to Federal Prisons

Private Prisons are prisons that are owned by private corporations instead of being owned by the Federal Government. These institutions are usually overcrowded and have lower standards than normal prisons

Hillary Clinton
"I want to see them ended in the state system. You shouldn't have a profit motivation to fill prison cells with young Americans."

Hillary is very against private prisons, claiming that they are unsafe to the public, and that it should not be the responsibility of private organizations to be in change of our prisons
Donald Trump
“I do think we can do a lot of privatizations, and private prisons seems work a lot better,”

Donald Trump believes that upholding the law is important, and prisons, including private ones, are a key part of that. To him, they help boost our economy and work just as well, if not better, than the Federal Alternative
Issues that come with Privatizing prisons
Arguments can be made that Private Prisons are not a good idea due to them being used for profit, which is often seen as promoting the jailing of first time offenders and minor offenders
What do the candidates think of all this?
Public Opinion
Works Consulted
A large amount of the public thinks that private prisons are not only less safe and less secure, but that they also do not save the government any money by being owned by private organizations
