Obstacle 1 Obstacle 2 Obstacle 3 Goal Start Author Review Esperanza Rising is a book about a girl (Esperanza) goes to America to start a new life after her rich old life is crushed. Her Papa was killed by bandits. And her mean uncle Tio Luis burns her house in rage. She flees to America and has to learn a new way of life. She learns how to sweep, change diapers and cook. When her mother gets sick with Valley Fever and the money she has in her valise (to bring Abuelita, her grandmother) to America, gets stolen by Miguel. She finds out that he brought her grandmother to America. And when mama returns from the hospital she recovers quickly, Esperanza learns what it means to be truly rich. Esperanza Rising By Kate Vandenberg Maps Bookmarks Esperanza Rising is a wonderful book about not giving up. This book would be best for teens because some words in the book are tricky, (like the Spanish words) and some children don't fully understand what immigration or emigration is. It is a book that would fall in the categories: action, realistic fiction and historic fiction. This book is awesome and I give it four and a half stars out of five.
