Alvin York :) by:Katie Morton also informatuon on alvin york more pictures him in world war 1 Weapons From World War 1 information information of Alvin York what made him a hero was... some more information on Alvin York. information on Alvin York ~Alvin York was born in December 13, 1887 at pall mall Fentress county , Tennessee.
~ Alvin's father died in 1911 he was left at home with his mother to raise a large family.
~ Alvin York became a hard drinking, gambling, roughneck, until he met the love of his life Gracie Williams in about 1915.
~ He became a member ( and soon an elder) of the strict pacifist church in christian union. on November 15, 1917, he reported for military duty at camp Gordon, Georgia.
York arrived in the front lines in France on June 27,1918. his appointment with destiny came on October 8,1918 in the Argonne Forest.
Alvin York died on September 2, 1964 he died in the hospital.
Alvin York is known for being a hero in world war 1 because he received a medal of honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, taking 32 machine guns, killing 28 German soldiers and capturing 132 others. ~ Alvin York didn't have much education he only went to school for 9 months, along with his brothers.
~he had to help take care of his family with his mother because his father died.
~ he went to serve in the military for a while after helping his mother.
