Transcript of Planning all Possible Pathways

My 3 possible career goals.
Pediatrician
Surgeon
Obstetrician
What comes after secondary school?
To be able to go on and achieve my possible career goals. After graduating from high school, I will need to go into a university science program.
Information on post secondary education.
All three careers are almost he same thus they would require similar post secondary education
Pediatrician
To be able to receive a Bachelor's degree for science you would need to study for four years.
Four years of medical school
3 years of "residency" training.
Surgeon
To be able to receive a Bachelor's degree for science you would need to study for four years.
Four years of medical school
Five years of residency
Obstetrician
To be able to receive a Bachelor's degree for science you would need to study for four years.
Four years of medical school
4-5 years of "residency" training.
Financial Burdens
High school : free
Except for the writing utensils which you would have to provide for yourself.
Life Sciences at McGill : $8,481.07 annually
Human Biology - Global Health at UFT - St. George Campus : $6,400 annually
Medicine at McGill: $16,880.98 annually
Financial support
My parents have opened an RESP ( Registered Education Savings Plan) for me
If needed I would apply for a Student Loan
Entrance scholarships
Surgeon
Pros
Get paid very well
Have a the highest growth rate
Cons
Have a longer "residency" training
Alot of money spend of schooling
Pediatrician
Pros
Gets paid very well
Have the shortest "residency" training
Cons
Alot of money spend of schooling
Obstetrician
Pros
Gets paid very well
Can perform many surgeries on an elective basis.
Cons
Have a longer "residency" training
Alot of money spend of schooling
... That of course comes with a lot of planning (secondary school course requirements)...
I would like to be able to take courses such as Life Science ( at McGill) or Human Biology - Global Health ( at UFT )
High school course requirements
It was recommended by Peterson's College Bound that students who would like to peruse a career in Medicine, take a lot of AP courses which are science and math based, such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, etc.
Students should also excel in other areas such as English, Humanities, etc.
Currently, I am enrolled in a pre-IB program, which enable me to take more advanced courses. Due to the solid IB course package at my school, I am not allowed to take more than 2 of the 3 science courses. However we are allowed to take a regular science course either through a summer school or night school.
I am planning on taking Biology during the summer.
More information would be given to us in grade 10 by the IB Guidence Counselor in the format of a presentation.
Uncertain Future
In the future if money is running low or that I would want to take a break from all the studying. This is after receiving my bachelor's degree, although their aren't many other paths for undergraduates in life science, they can assist in researches conducted by those with a higher degree. I can also take other science courses that have a better place in the workplace, since to apply for medical school it does not require you to have a bachelor's degree in life science but in any sciences.

Learning Style
VISUAL-KINESTHETIC LEARNER
In science most of the time the teaching style is through presentations or exploring.
Visual = presentation
Exploring = Kinesthetic
Therefore my learning style is suitable for any science and math based courses.
Personal Learning Habits
Strong collaboration skills
Surgeon: Most work in teams when doing an operation.
Pediatrician: Need to be able to work with nurses and administrative personnel.
Obstetrician: Need to be able to work with nurses and administrative personnel.
Weak communication skills
All three requires strong communication skills.
Surgeon, Pediatrician, Obstetrician: Need to be able to communicate to their patients and other healthcare. support staff.
Weak time management and planning skills
It is a important skill for all three careers because all of them requires very high grades. Time management and planning skills is a crucial skill to get good grades.
Pros & Cons
Contingency Plan
Since all three of the careers I chose are very similar I can decided later on which one is right for me. All three acquire me to have a bachelor's degree in science. Although my choice is not clear yet, I further learn about myself as I mature, then maybe I would know which one is the one I would want to choose.
