Why EDS?
Under the hood
How it Works
Talking Points
Moving Forward
What's included:
EBSCO databases
"Partner" databases
Institutional repositories
Subscription databases that aren't "partners" with EBSCO
2008 to 2009
OhioLINK Library Advisory Council identifies a need for a state of the art unified web interface, and a task force is formed

No existing products met the requirements--OhioLINK will work with Index Data to build its own discovery layer!
Hardware upgrades and funding snags delayed the progress of the discovery layer

OhioLINK announced there was no timeline for finishing the project
QuickSearch 2 is launched as an intermediary solution. The service is beta-tested but not implemented

The Discovery Layer Task Force meets again to evaluate vendor products
2012 to 2013
Vendor products look good! An ITN is issued and OhioLINK begins negotiations

A contract is signed with EBSCO and Wright State jumps in as a 1st quarter implementor

#1 and #2
QuickSearch (EDS) provides continuity for users who are already familiar with EBSCO databases

Users can create accounts and customize their search preferences and save them. There are options for page layout, results format, and e-mail delivery. Each user can create his or her own experience
#3 and #4
QuickSearch (EDS) uses an industry-standard design with limiters on the left and content in the middle. Users are confident in using sites with this layout.

Journal Alerts can be set to notify faculty when new issues of journals are available.
Relevancy ranking brings forward results from a variety of databases. It might be interesting to see what the scientific community is writing about Abraham Lincoln!

How Relevancy Ranking works:
Level one: subject headings
Level two: title
Level three: author keyword
Value ranking is used when levels 1-3 are equal:
Currency of article/book/etc
Document type (articles, then books, then reviews, etc)
Size of articles (longest is returned first)
LinkSource is a more inclusive link resolver when compared to OLinks
When available, multiple source options are offered for accessing full text
We (library staff) have control of the look and feel of LinkSource and can make adjustments to maximize the benefits of the product
