Inclined Plane
A simple machine that is a straight, slanted surface, which facilitates the raising of loads. Inclined planes help make work easier by reducing the size of the needed force (input)
Lever
A lever is a simple machine that consists of a bar that pivots at a fixed point called a fulcrum

1st Class
: the fulcrum is between the input force and the load
2nd Class: the load is between the fulcrum and the input force

3rd Class
: the input force is between the fulcrum and the load
Makes Work Easier
Wedge
a simple machine that is made up of two inclined planes that is moveable

Simple Machines

Examples: ramps, slide, hill
with road cut in it, stairs
1st Class: increases the force
or the distance
2nd Class: increases output force
3rd Class: increases distance reduces the force (input).
Makes work easier by reducing the size of the needed force
(input force)
exs: a knife, ax, doorstop
and teeth
Makes work easier by multiplying the input force
Wheel and Axle
A simple machine that consists of two circular objects of different sizes, the wheel is the larger of the two circular objects
(all images from gooogle)
Makes work easier by increasing the output force and reducing the distance

Examples: door knobs, wrenches, steering wheels, and faucets
A simple machine that consists of an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder
.
Screw
Makes work easier by increasing the distance where input force acts therefore reducing the force needed (input)
Examples: a light bulb base, a jar lid, a bolt and a bottle cap
Pulley
A simple machine that consists of a wheel, over which a rope, chain, or wire passes.
Fixed
: Pulley connected to something that does not move
Movable
: connected directly to the object that is being moved
Examples: flag pole, elevator, blinds
Examples: zip lines,cranes,
weight lifting machine, hoist
Makes Work Easier By
Fixed: changes the direction of the force
Movable: reduces the force needed
