BIOLOGY-chapter 4
ELEMENT
The importance of water in the cell
4. Lubrication:
-Mucus assists the movement of food substances in the
intestinal tract.
-Synovial fluid lubricates the joint to ease the movements
at the joints.
5. Transport medium:
-Transport sugar, amino acids andrespiratory gases.
-Remove waste products from body such area through
urine and sweat.
The types of nucleic acid..
Percentages of various elements in the human body
Nucleic acids..
Element ??
Hey everybody !
Do you know??
What is element ?
An element is a substance, composed
of only one kind of atom which cannot
be broken into simpler substances by a
chemical reaction.
1. Solvent: Water can dissolve many ionic
compounds such as salt, and polar molecules such as sugars.

Chemical composition of the cell

are made of substances called elements..
Do you remember this table??
So, what are they?
they are carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen.
There are about 25 essential element which are important
to living organism, but only 4 elements
which are the most common element in organism.
Organic compounds like carbohydrates, proteins, lipids
and nucleic acid are chemical compounds that contain
the element carbon.
Inorganic compounds like water is composed of hydrogen
and oxygen that is important compound in the cell.
-An important role in the cell.
-Are complex macromolecules which store genetic
information in the form of a code.
-The builing blocks are called nucleotides.
-Each nucleotide consists of...
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)
-A double-stranded polynucleotide, with
the two strands twisted around each other.
-It can be found in nucleus chloroplast
and mitochondrion.
1.
2.
Ribonucleic acid (RNA)
-Can be found in the cytoplasm, ribosomes and nucleus.
-Copies the information carried by the DNA
for use in protein synthesis.
2. Biochemical reaction: Water acts as a medium for
many digestive reaction.
3. Maintaining osmotic balance and turgidity:
The osmotic balance between blood and interstitial fluid
In plants, the cell becomes turgid and this
