METERING DEVICES
PROTECTION DEVICES SURGE ARRESTORS ARE INSTALLED AT THE ENTRANCE OF TRANSMISSION LINE TO PROTECT FROM SURGE VOLTAGES DUE TO LIGHTENING STRIKES, EQUIPMENT FAULTS OR ANY OTHER FAULTS. THE ARRESTOR USES GAS FILLED GAP THAT ACT AS AN OPEN CIRCUIT BUT DURING OVER VOLTAGE THE GAS IONIZED AND LET THE OVER VOLTAGE GROUNDED. FOR EVEY PHASE THERE IS A SEPERATE LIGHTENING ARRESTOR IS INSTALLED. CVT IS A METERING DEVICE USED FOR LOWERING THE EXTRA HIGH VOLTAGE INTO LOW VOLTAGE FOR MEASURMENT IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE RELAYS IT TRAPS HIGH FREQUENCY COMMUNICATION SIGNALS AND DIVERT IT TO THE TELECOMMUNICATION /TELE PROTECTION PANNEL THIS TECHNIQUE IS ALSO KNOWN AS PLCC (POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION) WAVE TRAP IS ALWAYS PUT ON Y PHASE AS IT IS LESS PRONE TO FAULTS.
