The Atlantic Ocean is 76.762 million square kilometers. The Atlantic Ocean also has great history. In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed the Atlantic Ocean. Then in the 1620's the Mayflower sailed across the Atlantic. Finally the Titanic sunk in the Atlantic Ocean in 1912. Who knows whats next! The Cape Fear River is 325 kilometers long. Its the longest river within North Carolina. The Cape Fear river flows into the Atlantic Ocean. This river in my opinion takes up most of the piedmont in North Carolina. It all started December 29, 1808 when our seventeenth president was born. When he was only 3 when his dad, Jacob Johnson, died. When he was only 15 he ran away from home and on May 17, 1827 Eliza McCardle married Andrew Johnson. The thing was, Andrew had never gone to school before until he was 18. But Eliza taught him how to count, write, and read. A few years later he was elected for president and had 5 children. But a few months later he died in Tennessee on July 31, 1875. Krispy Kreme Vernon Rudolph is the founder of the Krispy Kreme in North Carolina. This happened in the twentieth century. In 1933 Rudolph purchased the secret recipe to make the donuts and be a sucsess. He moved from Kentucky to Winston-Salem in North Carolina and he opened the first Krispy Kreme in North Carolina on July 13, 1937. To make the donuts hot he cut a hole in the wall and gave them to the customers directly. Nobody could make donuts like Rudolph did, the other Krispy Kreme's made their donuts from scratch. Soon enough they had the tools to make the donuts and the recipe was passed to another Krispy Kreme and another and another and so on. http://www.northcarolinahistory.org/encyclopedia/363/entry Scotty McCreery This all started on October 9 1993 when he was born in Garner, NC. Ever since he was 10 he has been playing the guitar. Scotty was around the age of 17 when he tryed out for American Idol. When he auditioned he sang 'Your Man' by Josh Turner. He was so succesful that he won the tenth season of American Idol! This was a really eye opening career. Female river otters only give birth in the spring. When babies are born they are blind and stay in a den until they are one month old. They stay with their mother for a year then they go live on their own. A river otter's tail is about 1/3 of its length. A female river otter can give birth to two to four young at a time. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was the nation’s first state university to open its doors and the only public university to award degrees in the 18th century. Authorized by the N.C. Constitution in 1776, the University was chartered by the N.C. General Assembly Dec. 11, 1789, the same year George Washington first was inaugurated as president. The cornerstone was laid for Old East, the nation’s first state university building, Oct. 12, 1793. Hinton James, the first student, arrived from Wilmington, N.C., Feb. 12, 1795. The flag has the letters N*C on it. The * stands for one of the 50 *'s on the USA flag being one of the USA states. On May 20 ,1861, was the day North Carolina was adopted by the USA. The state flag was presented by Colonel John D. In 2003 770,000 acres of cotton were harvested in North Carolina.
In 2003, 1,037,000 bales of cotton were produced in North Carolina.
The North Carolina cotton industry has cropped more than 1 million bales of cotton since 1810.

Old Baldy is 35 feet wide. The light house is located in 101 Lighthouse, Bald Head Island. Old Baldy is about 100 feet tall! Imagine walking up the stairs! The Tuscarora tribe was lead by Chief Hancock. The different tribes were the British, American, Dutch, and German.Sadly, the Europeans won even though many tribes joined the Tuscaroras. http://www.warpaths2peacepipes.com/the-indian-wars/tuscarora-war.htm http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_was_fighting_and_who_won_the_Tuscarora_war Braxton Bragg was born in 1817 and died in 1876. He is a wonderful man in my opinion because he was in the US Army. He entered the war in 1861. He was promoted full general one year after he joined the US Army. He was born in North Carolina but he was in the army in Tennessee. At age 59 in 1876, Braxton Bragg died. http://www.history.com/topics/braxton-bragg The Dogwood In 1994 the state made it official that the dogwood would be the state flower. There are three species of dogwoods that exist in North Carolina. The well known kind of dogwood is the flowering dogwood. The scientific name for the flowering dogwood is cornus florida. The cornus florida can be white or pink. http://ncpedia.org/symbols/flower Sunset Beach Sunset Beach was purchased in 1955 by Mannon C. Gore. Mr.Gore started to do property sales in 1958. This lighthouse increased its height in 1854 to 150 feet. The keepers could stay inside because they also built rooms. http://www.ncbeaches.com/Features/Attractions/Lighthouses/CapeHatterasLighthouse/ Lumberton NC Lumberton NC is a city in Robeson County. It is actually the name of Captain Blackbeard's flagship. Captain Blackbeard has only used this ship for less than a year. In 1996 some people think they have found leftovers that might have been from Queen Anne's Revenge. Queen Anne's Revenge appears to be in the 2011 film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The flagship is played by the Sunset. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Anne's_Revenge The Wright Brothers National Memorial is located in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The stand is 60 feet high, the actual monument is 90 feet high. The monument was dedicated in 1932. On the side of the monument it says 'Genius'. I could not find why it says genius but I think that it says genius because, the Wright Brothers were so genius to build the first airplane. I am sure I will find out soon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_Brothers_National_Memorial 1st Battle of Fort Fisher Victory V Fort fisher was from December 23-27, 1864.
