Anorexia is lack or loss of appetite for food (as a medical condition). It is a deadly illness. Unlike the flu, or a sexually transmitted disease, anorexia isnt spread by baceria or a virus. Instead anorexia stems from your thoughts and emotions.
Who can get Anorexia?
Anybody can get the illness but 90 to 95% of those who suffer are females. Its only a number of males who has this eating disorder.
extreme weight loss
thin apperance
abnormalblood counts
insomnia
dizziness or fainting
bluish, discoloration of the fingers
hair thins, breaks or falls out
soft, downy hair covering th body
absence of menstruation
constipation
dry or yellowish skin
intollerance of cold
irregular heart rythums
low blood pressure
dehydration
osteoporosis
swelling or amrs or legs
Emotional and Behavioral symptoms
serverely restricting food intaek through dieting or fasting and may include excessive exercise
bingeing and self-induced vomiting to get rid of the food and may include use of laxatives, enemas, diet aids, or herbal products
preoccupation with food
refusal to eat
denial of hunger
fear of gaining weight
lying about how much food has been eaten
flat mood(lack of emotion)
social withdrawal
irritability
reduced interest in sex
depressed mood
thoughts of suicide
What is Anorexia?
Physical Symptoms
Cause 1
Biological- some people may have a genetic tendency toward perfectionism, senseitivity and perservance. All traits associated with anorexia.
Cause 2
Psychological- Some emotional characteristics may contribute to anorexia. Young women may have obsessive-compulsive personality traits that make it easier to stick to strict diets and forgo food despite being hungry. They may have an extreme drive for perfectionism, which causes them to think they're never thin enough. And they may have high levels of anxiety and engage in restrictive eating to reduce it.
Cause 3
Environmental- Modern Western culture emphasizes thinness. Success and worth are often having to do with being thin. Peer pressure may want people to be thin, mostly among young girls.
Risk factors
Being female, young age, genetics
family history, weight changes
transitions, sports, work
artistic activites, media and
society. All these can make you
want to become at risk to be a
anorexia patient.
Treatments
Hospitilization,Medical care, Restoring a healthy weight, Psychotherapy, Medications, and other treatments that can cure anorexia
