Christmas Senior Project: The Importance of Family "I would define Christmas as a time for spending time with family. A time of peace throughout the world...It's not a time of receiving but giving."

-Michael Strabone Ideology 1: Family- Christmas revolves around the togetherness and presence of relatives and loved ones through tradition and gatherings. Presence of "Christmas Spirit" Ideology II: "Christmas Spirit"- Christmas is a time of peace in which one invests belief in the season, others, and oneself. "'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;" "Christmas Spirit": Peace on Earth "War is over if you want it. War is over now."-John Lennon The Importance of Children I HEARD the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,
And made forlorn
The households born
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
"For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men." The Birth of Jesus Cons of Christmas? "In general, Christmas is for kids."

-Deborah Baglio Ideology III: Children- (a) Young spirit and undying faith in tradition (e.g. Santa Claus) fuel Christmas. (b) Children receive many gifts on this day The importance of children, whether it be through the ideologies of "Christmas Spirit" or receiving gifts, stems from the birth of one important child... Ideology IV: The Birth of Jesus- The ecclesiastical reason for the season. The coming of Jesus into the world (in the eyes of Christian belief) sustains Christmas. May 2011 Universal Truths about Christmas are:
"Peace on earth, goodwill towards men...there are always ways to help others and Christmas is an opportunity to do so."
